them free from any rust or gunk that has accumulated over the years. I had a hardened punch that fit snugly into the snap ring. Then I pried the punch away from the housing with a large flat head. After breaking free each end of the ring I was able to easily remove the snap ring with snap ring pliers. It's the rust/gunk that makes them so hard. For me, removing the turbine housing was the hardest part.
